Delivery and Modern Technology
In our modern times now, the fifth cannon has taken a new route. Just how rhetoric changed in the past with the installment of technology like, the printing press resulting in an increase of literacy in people, rhetoric is becoming more of a technological approach. McCorkle mentions Ramus who ultimately said that "print situates words in space more relentlessly than writing ever did...By and large, printed texts are far more easier to read than manuscript texts". This is a huge component in digital rhetoric, for pretty much all text is printed, and readily available to pretty much all audiences.
Ramus "focused more attention onto the composition of the rhetorical text and less on the performance, thus creating conditions for a hidden delivery where the look and feel of writing dictated all modes of communication" (McCorkle). This is something to keep in mind in our modern day where we now have the use of video, the internet, pictures, social media and so much more. Rhetoric is becoming a more advanced subject; as rhetoric is becoming more digital the approach of delivery is becoming more innovative. Different aspects such as font, style and placement become so much more important; and the act of sharing your rhetoric is becoming much more easier.

1. How has modern technology affected our rhetoric and how we deliver it now?
2. Compare how you would deliver your rhetoric on Facebook (or other social media sites) compared to presenting your rhetoric in class, is their a difference?
3. What would Aristotle, Cicero and Quinitilian react to technology today? Would they believe it is beneficial?
4. What would Stanton and Willard done differently delivering their messages if they had modern technology at the ready?
